RRC Polytechnic Distinguished Graduate Award

RPI has a rich history of Greek community involvement on campus. There are 29 active fraternities and 6 sororities with over 32 percent of the student population involved in these organizations.

Our alumni are resourceful and hard-working industry leaders throughout the country. They strengthen the Learn by Doing education at RPI by serving as advisers and ambassadors, coming back to visit campus, offering internships and hiring fellow graduates.

Distinguished Graduate Award

The Distinguished Graduate Award honors an alumnus or alumna whose life and work embodies the values and traditions of Polytechnic, including integrity, curiosity, compassion, courtesy, service to others and respect for the world beyond. Those who have served as a leader, role model and mentor to other students are encouraged to submit nominations.

Among the nominees are Claire (Dillavou) Jarashow, PhD, MPH; Shannon Thyne, Pharm.D; and Percy A. Pierre, Ph.D, who was the first African-American to earn a doctorate in electrical engineering.

These are just some of the outstanding achievements of Poly alumni, but there are many other individuals who have made remarkable contributions to our community and the world around them. Please share this article with them and encourage them to nominate themselves or another WGU alum for the Distinguished Graduate Award!

This is a great way to recognize your peers, as well as an excellent opportunity to inspire and motivate future generations of WGU Night Owls. To nominate yourself or someone else, fill out the form below.

Robert Okabe

Robert Okabe is a Managing Director at RPX Group LLC and has been involved in startup investing since 1995. He has invested in fourteen startups and is a frequent guest speaker on the topic of early-stage investing.

He is a long-time supporter of SUA and has helped raise tens of millions of dollars to fund the school. He has also donated a large portion of his own retirement funds and is a benefactor for many of our students.

His life-long passion for pottery making started in Seto with his grandfather. He learned all he could from his grandfather about tools and kilns.

Okabe made many Jomon pattern pots, but eventually he ran into financial difficulties and he had to stop producing them. He also had to turn his back on his family.

He developed a divergence meter that allowed him to see fluctuations in the flow of time and could determine which timelines were on a danger path. Luckily, his friends trust him and they start searching for the culprit in earnest.
